Hardy ferns are a hidden gem of the gardening world and should be grown much more widely.
They suffer from perceptions they either take over like Bracken or need wet spots to grow in - some do, but most don't.
This specially selected trio of ferns are really special though - they are both hardy, and evergreen, so stand out as some of the best to grow, as most die back underground each winter.
They will reward you with year-round foliage interest and are perfect together as a small fernery in the border or in a large pot, or in mixed planters, or cool, deep, moist soils.
This collection includes one each of 3 named ferns (varieties may vary depending on seasonal availability).
Specifications Supplied as a pack of 3 plants, 1 each of 3 varieties.
15-20cm tall in 9cm pot Availability: All-year-round Planting time: October to June Top Tips All ferns respond well to a little TLC in their first two years until they are established, so make sure that they get plenty of water and rich, fertile soil.
Care Information Low maintenance, ferns thrive in dappled, woodland shade so are at their happiest in light shade in moist, fertile soil.
Ferns don't normally need fertilising, but do appreciate a leafy humus mulch in the autumn or a dressing of well-rotted manure.
Water regulary and from the base of the plant to avoid water sitting in the crown which can encourage rot.
Ferms make excellent container plants, happily sitting with other perennials.
Pruning is also not normally necessary, but plants benefit from the old fronds being removed in spring as the new ones appear.
